India squad for the next 3 Test matches will be announced soon: No Kohli, Bumrah, KL Rahul, Jadeja, and Siraj
Virat Kohli is unlikely to play in the last three Tests against England, but there is good news for Rahul and Jadeja.
The BCCI senior men’s selection committee, chaired by former bowler Ajit Agarkar, will meet in the coming days to announce India’s squad for the final three Tests against England. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid are both set to attend the selection meeting.
Rohit, in particular, had a lengthy talk with Agarkar practically immediately after India defeated England in the 2nd Test. The selection meeting will be everything but straightforward. There are numerous questions to be answered, the most important of which is Virat Kohli’s availability.
Kohli, who missed the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, will be unavailable for the third and fourth Tests in India Squad. Also doubtful for the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. The former captain reportedly told Rohit and the selectors of his choice. However, with the series expected to go down to the wire. The selectors may wait for Kohli’s decision on the last Test before announcing the squad for the third and fourth Tests in Rajkot and Ranchi.
Mohammed Shami, another key player, is unlikely to feature in the series. The veteran fast bowler is yet to fully recoup from the ankle injury sustained during the ODI World Cup.
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja may join back the India squad.
There is some positive news for India overseas. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the second Test due to injury, are expected to be included in the squad for the next two Tests. Rahul was out with a quadriceps injury, and Jadeja injured his hamstring while attempting a run in the series opener.
Both are now in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The NCA doctors have still to submit their final assessment to the BCCI. Rahul and Jadeja are apparently healing well, and with the third Test in Rajkot still a week away. The selectors are confident about their returns.
Siraj is set to return; Bumrah will not be rested from the third test.
Pacer Siraj, who was dropped from the India squad for the 2nd Test, has also been confirmed to return to share the workload with Bumrah. Team management is hesitant to field four spinners, therefore Siraj is almost expected to start in Rajkot replacing Mukesh Kumar.
