Right then! That's all from this contest. Afghanistan have grabbed another vital 10 points in the World Cup Super League. The third ODI of the series will be played on Tuesday, 25th January 2022. The first ball of this clash will be bowled at 12.30 pm IST (7 am GMT). But as you know, the buildup will begin well in advance so make sure you tune in early. Cheers!
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his knock of 103 runs.
Afghanistan would be extremely pleased with their bowling effort and they well and truly deserve to win this game as well as the series. It was once again Mujeeb Ur Rahman who stole the show with the ball and he finished with 4 wickets to his name. All the bowlers executed their plans to perfection and they hardly gave away any freebies to Netherlands' batters. Fareed Ahmad was also impressive with the ball as he picked up a couple of wickets and kept the batters in check. Rashid Khan, the magician, got just the one wicket but he too was very economical and kept the Dutch batters on their toes. All in all, it was a dominant display from Afghanistan and they take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series.
Netherlands had a tough ask in front of them and they have only themselves to blame. Their approach during the chase will be questioned as at no point they looked like chasing it down. After losing a couple of wickets early on in the innings, Scott Edwards and Bas de Leede got together and steadied the ship. But they found it hard to rotate the strike and as a result, there was a passage of play in the middle overs where they hardly got any runs off boundaries. They did put on a partnership of 90 runs but never did they look like chasing down the total. Once they lost Bas de Leede, wickets kept tumbling and Netherlands completely lost their way. Scott Edwards did get to his fifty and he was the only batter who showed some fight and resistance. No other batter managed to get in and score freely and the Dutch were handed a defeat in the end.
A comfortable win in the end for Afghanistan and they seal the ODI series with one more game to go. Netherlands have once again fallen short of the target. Even though they went in with a plan of keeping wickets in hand, they failed to keep up with the asking rate and that has cost them this game.
