Right then. That’s it from the coverage of this game. Both teams share the spoils in their first outing, but that’s not all from the series. The two will meet again for the second Test match on 23rd May 2022 at 0930 IST (0400 GMT). But as you all know you can join us in advance for the build-up. Till then take care and goodbye!
Angelo Mathews win the Man of the Match award for his incredible knock of 199. He says it was disappointing to not get to a double ton. States it was a good wicket to bat on but Bangladesh bowlers bowled well and they had to work really hard for their runs. Adds without partners one can't get to that score and he thanks for the support.
Mominul Haque, the captain of Bangladesh is in for a chat. He says he always smiles as he loves smiling. Adds they did well with the bat here, it was a combined effort by the team. Adds Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam bowled really well, Nayeem Hasan was the star in the first innings and they did miss Shoriful. Adds Taijul Islam knows his role and he knows the conditions too. Ends by saying you need to improve in every game and he is looking forward for the next game.
Dimuth Karunaratne, the skipper of Sri Lanka says they could have scored more in the first innings and they should have put Bangladesh under more pressure. Mentions the pacers did a very good job and the spinners did well in patches and hence, they could not restrict them to a low score but the spinners will learn. Adds they always play to win, they needed to play positively but the shot selection was not the best and they need to learn from that. Credits the way Dickwella and Chandimal played and says they know what to do in such situation.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
The approach though was extremely slow by the batters from both the sides and that meant, there needed to be a collapse if there was to be a result. Bangladesh did bowl really well in the first two sessions of Day 5 but eventually it ended in a draw.
In reply, Bangladesh managed to get a lead of over 50. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were the heroes with the bat for the hosts as both scored tons. Those efforts took Bangladesh into a position from where they could not lose the game.

To be honest, the game just moved about a very slow speed. The 5th day was probably the most exciting one but 4 before were quite dull. After electing to bat, Sri Lanka put on a good competitive total courtesy Mathews’ 199. They looked set to score a lot more but the Bangladesh spinners bowled brilliantly to keep them under the 400-run mark.
So, the game finally ends in a draw! It was quite difficult to force a result on a wicket which remained good for the batters throughout. Bangladesh did keep hopes alive by picking wickets at regular intervals earlier in the day but the pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Niroshan Dickwella showed great grit and determination to ensure there is no surprise.
The skippers are shaking hands! That means this is the end of the game. One might be wondering, how have they shook hands with 17 overs to go. Well, with Sri Lanka declaring, two overs have been deducted which means we have just the 15 overs left in the day and hence, both the skippers can decide to call it off and that is what they do.
