Right then, Barbados Royals march on and complete a comfortable win. The action continues in the Caribbean Premier League as Jamaica Tallawahs face Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday, 10th September at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). Do join us early for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Saint Lucia Kings, says that the conditions were tricky but he doesn't want to take dew as an excuse. Adds that they need to find ways to bowl in these conditions. Feels that they were 10 runs short and with the ball skidding onto the bat in the second innings, the batting became easier. He praises Alzarri Joseph for picking some vital wickets and says that he has seen him grow and he is getting smarter as a bowler. States that they have a rest day and they need to pick themselves up. Wants his team to do the small things better, mainly in the Powerplay.
David Miller, the captain of Barbados Royals, smiles and says that winning the toss was important with all the dew around. Shares that it was a very good wicket and he was pleased to restrict them to 169. Tells that they have a balanced squad and everyone is contributing. Praises Kyle Mayers for his form and feels that he is one for the future. Further says that they are performing well in all aspects of the game and he wants to keep this winning momentum.
Corbin Bosch (81 off 50 balls) is the Player of the Match! Says that it's dream come true and he is happy to deliver with the bat. On him preferring to bat up the order, Bosch replies that whatever the team needs from him, he is happy to give. Mentions that they were looking to take some calculative risks and feels that helped them cross the line.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
The visitors would have been happy with the total they had on the board as Tim David and David Wiese powered them to close to the 170-mark with their onslaught at the death. Hayden Walsh had done well earlier for Barbados by keeping it tight and slowing the scoring rate. They were unable to bowl well in the death overs and challenged themselves to a tough target. Their in-form batters though made this chase look quite easy and Barbados Royals are now firmly on top of the table.
Saint Lucia Kings began with spin and it worked immediately as Roston Chase claimed the prized wicket of Quinton de Kock. They were however immediately pegged back by their opponent's counter-attack and were neither able to take wickets nor contain the scoring. The game was taken away from them in the middle overs and they were always behind the 8-ball. Alzarri Joseph came into the attack and broke the partnership but none of the other bowlers could support him adequately. He was outstanding, taking three wickets for 32 runs in his four overs but found himself on the wrong side of the result. They have a lot of work to do on their fielding as well as they kept conceding extra runs through misfields.
The hosts lost Quinton de Kock in the very first over for a golden duck but Corbin Bosch came out at number 3 and settled any sort of jitters in the dressing room. He put on an 84-run partnership with the in-form Kyle Mayers who played a supporting role this time around. Bosch took on the bowling attack and scored his fifty in just 23 deliveries dealing in boundaries. They scored 67 runs in the Powerplay and the platform was set for an easy chase. The moment Kyle Mayers departed, Corbin became more watchful and along with David Miller took the game deep. He was dismissed on 81 but had already done most of the heavy lifting. The captain completed the formalities and sealed their fourth consecutive win in the tournament.
A thumping win! Barbados Royals continue their dominance in the tournament and have made a mockery of a decent target. They have sealed a six-wicket win with 9 balls to spare and have taken a massive step towards the playoffs. Saint Lucia Kings will be disappointed with their bowling effort as they lacked discipline and penetration. They were unable to bring the confidence from their previous game as their bowling proved to be their weakness this time around.
