Sai Sudharsan is awarded yet another Player of the Match award for scoring 83 runs in 41 deliveries. The action in the Tamil Nadu T20 League continues as we have a bottom-of-the-table clash between Tiruppur and Trichy underway. Do switch tabs to catch the action. From here, it is goodbye and cheers!
The openers for Kovai got the team off to a flier with Suresh Kumar acting as the initial aggressor and with his wicket, S Sujay took over but both were dismissed after playing attacking cameos. Sai Sudharsan notched up his fourth half-century in five games and formed the foundation of their inning with 83 runs in 41 balls. U Mukilesh also played a handy knock but would have loved to work on his strike rate while Shahrukh Khan added the finishing touches and helped his team cross the 200-run mark. P Saravan Kumar continued his good wicket-taking form and claimed two scalps but proved to be expensive. Ravichandran Ashwin, Mathivannan M, and Subodh Bhati claimed one wicket each but the biggest setback for them was that Varun Chakaravarthy went wicketless for the first time in the competition leaving their batters with an uphill task to climb.
Dindigul's run chase got off to a disastrous start as they lost their Impact Player Rahul early and their two in-form batters Baba Indrajith and Adithya Ganesh also failed to make an impact. They were reduced to 8 runs for three wickets and Boopathi Kumar came out looking to counterattack but was dismissed looking to be overly aggressive. When they lost their skipper Ravichandran Ashwin and found half their side back in the shed, things looked pretty glum for them. Shivam Singh S held up one end and notched up a fighting half-century as he added a 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Sarath Kumar C. Shahrukh Khan dismissed the pair as he continued to take crucial wickets and the tail was rapped up as Kovai managed to bowl out their opponents in the final over. Manimaran Siddharth was good upfront claiming 2 wickets and K Gowtham Thamarai Kannan was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets as M Mohammed and Jhatavedh Subramanyan took one a piece.
Another comprehensive win for Kovai and it takes them to the top of the table! They have ended Dindigul’s unbeaten streak with a 59-run victory and are on a three-game winning run to boost their chances of making it to the playoffs. A commanding display by a side that is definitely one of the title contenders and they are in a good position as we enter the business end of the competition. Dindigul will be disappointed with their first loss of the campaign and it had to be in a game where their highly-rated bowling attack failed to make an impact.
