Right then, that is it from this game, and India Women's next game of this Tri-Series is against South Africa Women. That game will be played on Saturday, the 28th of January at the same venue and will begin at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT). You can however join us a lot early for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye!
Smriti Mandhana (74* off 51 balls) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Mandhana says they did not know what to expect off the wicket in the first game. Adds that they were better prepared for this game and learned quickly how to bat on this wicket. Says that they did not want to go hard from the start and play sensibly. Concludes by saying that she is happy with the partnership between herself and Kaur went really well for them.
The India Women captain, Harmanpreet Kaur says that they didn't want to hurry with the bat and wanted to keep wickets in hand and that worked out well. Adds that they discussed about the batting performance as the pitch here wasn't an easy one and goes on to applaud the way Smriti Mandhana batted and that took the pressure off her as well. Mentions that she wasn't available for the first game but is happy to be able to do well in this game.
Hayley Matthews, the captain of West Indies Women says that she had a conversation with Campbelle in the middle to get going after the halfway mark. Adds that it was important to show some intent. She lauds India Women for their really good innings but is upset about the missed chances. Concludes by saying that it’s a must-win game for them against South Africa Women next time around and they will look to take positives from this game and do well in the next game.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Harmanpreet Kaur returned to captain India Women and opted to bat first. After a bit of a sluggish start and losing two wickets in 8.2 overs, the skipper along with Smriti Mandhana just overpowered the West Indies Women bowlers. The pair put on an unbeaten stand of 115 runs as Mandhana top-scored with 74 not out. Shanika Bruce and Shamilia Connell were good up front with the ball for West Indies Women but that was it as all the other bowlers were taken to the cleaners. Coming to the chase, the Indian spinners showed their class and picked up early wickets to have the opposition reeling at 39/3 at the halfway mark. Even though the Windies Women were able to up the ante in the next 10 overs, it was the start that killed the game for them.
West Indies Women were under the pump at the halfway mark and the shuffle in the batting order didn't work either. Britney Cooper fell for a duck with Rashada Williams and Shabika Gajnabi following suit. Then came the gritty stand between skipper Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle worth 71 runs. It was sedate for a while but after the halfway mark, the pair was able to find the fence with regularity. Campbelle fell but Matthews stayed on. Neither batter could surpass the 50-run mark and West Indies Women were completely outplayed in all aspects of the game.
A fairly comfortable win for India Women and they cruise to back-to-back wins in the series and now sit pretty on top of the table. They had a big total on the board and the bowlers were right on the money from the off. Deepti Sharma picked up a couple of early wickets to set the tone and then Rajeshwari Gayakwad made it three soon. After that, the bowlers were able to keep the runs in check but failed to pick up a wicket. The pacers seemed mostly ineffective but spin continued to dominate and apart from Devika Vaidya everyone else was fairly economical. Radha Yadav got herself on the wickets column and India Women picked up an easy win.
