Right then, that is all we have from this game. West Indies have sealed this three-match ODI series with a win in this second ODI. However, there are still 10 World Cup Super League points up for grabs and both teams would be eager to get those points in their kitty. The third ODI is scheduled on 4th of June, Saturday and it will begin at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT). Our coverage though will start in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies skipper, says that he is very happy and they came here to win games and they are doing the right things. Tells that it was a good game and despite losing some wickets, the boys put their hands up and that’s what they want. Mention that they had conversations about taking early wickets and adds that even if they don’t get it, spinners have to do their job. Says that victory means a lot to them and they just want to keep winning and want to enjoy this win.
Pieter Seelaar, the Netherlands skipper, says they didn't bat well after having a good platform. Says their spinners got a good purchase. Adds that they let it slip after West Indies were restricted to 99/5 odd. On Shariz Ahmad, says it was a good outing for him. He feels that they drop off too early. Mentions that he is disappointed and they wanted to win but there are a lot of positives. Praises his bowlers for starting brightly.
Brandon King is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant unbeaten knock of 91 from 90 balls! He says he is happy so far, he tries to do his best for the team. Says the pitch is good for batting no doubt and fortunately their bowlers did a good job to bundle them out below-par. It was satisfying for him to help his team and get over the line.
Netherlands had a great start both with the bat and ball in this game but could not capitalize on either of them. There are lot of positives for them in this game with seamers and spinners bowling well and the top 3 batters batting well. However, if they want to win games against big teams they need to learn to seize the opportunities when they come their way and overall it was another good learning curve for the men in orange. They would be looking to cap off this series with a win in the next game.
The pitch was the one that aided spinners and Windies spinners took full advantage of it as they restricted Netherlands to 214 despite the Dutch getting off to a great start with 101 runs on the board with no wicket. Akeal Hosein was the star with the ball once again for the West Indies as he took four wickets. The men in maroon were though put on the back foot at the start of their batting innings and were restricted to 60-4 as their top order failed to get going on a difficult pitch. However, King was in his zone again and after a brief partnership with Mayers, Carty joined him. The duo put together an unbeaten stand of over 100 runs with King scoring 91 off 90 balls and on the way took his team over the line in the second game in the row.
West Indies have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in this three-match ODI series and have clinched 10 more crucial points in the World Cup Super League. They were made to toil hard but they have clinched this game comfortably in the end and these are encouraging signs for this young Windies team moving ahead as they look to build a team for the future. Netherlands, on the other hand, had their moments and at one point of time were in control of this game but this is ODI cricket and one needs to keep the consistency level for a longer time and that is where Dutch have fallen short again.
