Jhye Richardson is the Player of the Match for his outstanding spell. he says that it's nice to start the season well and is happy to get it in front of the home crowd. Adds that the bowlers share the workload and that’s the best part about the Perth Scorchers. Shares that the crowd makes a huge difference and he is glad to put in a show for them. Mentions about his recent injury that the shoulder got caught at an awkward angle and the injury is a bit of a slip-up but he is all good to go now.
Presentation Time...
Melbourne Stars did not have a huge score to defend but they did put in the fight and were in the game till the halfway mark of the chase. All of their bowlers except for Hamish McKenzie snapped a wicket each with Tom Curran being the most successful of them. Earlier in the day, the Stars could only manage 146 after batting first with contributions from Marcus Stoinis, Tom Curran, and Beau Webster while the rest struggled. The Stars will look to improve on their effort in the next game and hope for a better result while the Perth Scorchers will look to keep the momentum.
A comprehensive run chase from the Perth Scorchers helps them defeat the Melbourne Stars in the season opener of the 2024-25 season. Chasing a modest score of 147 for the win, the Scorchers were struggling at 37/3 in the fifth over with all their overseas batters back in the hut. Young Cooper Connolly and Ashton Turner stepped up and added a crucial 68 for the fourth wicket to set up the chase. Cooper Connolly was dismissed for a well-made 64 but Turner carried on and a quick cameo from Nick Hobson did the job with ease at the end for the home side.

Short and angling back into the body of Turner, who camps back and works it off the inner half of the bat to forward square leg for a couple. Mid-wicket gets across and returns a throw to the keeper, who appeals for a run out after removing the bails. Replays are in and it shows that Turner's dive has saved him.
