Right then, That's it from the coverage of this game. The action in the Big Bash League will continue on Wednesday 11th January 2023 when Brisbane Heat will take on Perth Scorchers. The first ball will be at 2.10 pm IST (8.40 am GMT). But as you all know you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye.
Chris Lynn wins the MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD for his all guns blazing knock of 69 runs off 37 deliveries.
Earlier in the innings, all the batters for Adelaide Strikers got good starts but it was Chris Lynn's innings that stood out, as he racked up another half-century in this edition and stayed out till the very end to get his side over the 200-run mark. Which later proved to be a bit too much for Melbourne Renegades as they fell short by 20 runs.
An incredible performance by the Adelaide Strikers sees them move up to the third spot in the points table. The bowlers had a lot to play with here. They started off brilliantly and squeezed the run flow right at the top. It was Matthew Short who provided the early breakthrough. Later, the bowlers remained disciplined with their lines and lengths and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Matthew Short, Wes Agar, and Benjamin Manenti took two wickets each, while Benjamin Manenti had an expensive outing.
Chasing a steep target always puts the batting side under pressure even before they come out on the field to have a crack at it. And it was seen with the way the Melbourne Renegades' opening pair started this chase. Both of the struggled to time the ball well from the word go. At the end of Powerplay, Melbourne Renegades were teetering at 29/1. Sam Harper got off to a solid start but could not get much support from the other end before Jonathan Wells joined him. Sam Harper's knock of 63 made sure that the asking rate was moving in the right direction. Although, once he departed, the run rate kept creeping up. Will Sutherland played a solid cameo which brought some hope back to the Melbourne Renegades' dressing room, but he could not stay out till the end.
A scintillating performance by Adelaide Strikers first with the bat in hand and then with the ball sees them record their second win on the trot. They did put themselves under a bit of pressure when Will Sutherland took off in the death overs, but Wes Agar dealt with it and made sure there were no more hiccups while defending 202 runs.
