Right then! That's all from the coverage of this game. Birmingham Phoenix got their revenge for their opening game loss and Trent's winning streak has ended. The cricketing action in the Men's Hundred continues on 16th August, 2022 which sees a contest between Manchester Originals and Welsh Fire. The first ball will be at 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). As you all know you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, it's goodbye!
Moeen Ali, the skipper of Birmingham Phoenix wins the Man of the Match award for his all-round effort. On being asked about his innings, he says that actually it felt horrible and ugly but entertaining nonetheless. Credits the bowlers and says that they bowled really well. Says that the wicket felt difficult to bat on. Informs that even Liam Livingstone was having a tough time. Mentions that any score is challenging when your chasing but they knew that they have good players. Admits that it feels good to have a winning momentum and getting wins under their belt.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the innings, Trent Rockets were in all sort of trouble as they lost wickets in quick succession. At one stage, they were 53/6 and it looked like they will get bowled out under 100. However, Lewis Gregory and Daniel Sams batted out of their skins and gave something to their bowlers to fight for. During the chase, Trent Rockets gave a run for their money but Phoenix got over the line with minimum fuss.
Trent Rockets started brilliantly with the ball but could not maintain the same pressure throughout. Luke Wood got them off to a dream start, in fact he is the only bowler to get into the wicket's column by taking all the wickets in the game. Rest of the bowlers were unable to keep the run rate in check and that costed them the game. Also, their winning streak has come to an end.
It did not start well for Birmingham Phoenix with the blade. They lost both their openers quite early on and it looked like things might get worse from them. However, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone took their time to settle-in but once they got in their groove there was no looking back. Ali holed out after smacking his half-century. Later, Matthew Wade supported Liam Livingstone really well to get them over the line. The latter also racked up his half-ton, in the same ball he hit the winning runs. Birmingham Phoenix now have a hundred percent win record at home.
Wow! An incredible win for Birmingham Phoenix. Their third on the trot. This has been a complete team performance from them and they win with 14 balls to spare. Also, Trent Rockets have finally suffered their first defeat of the season.
