Further says that she enjoyed batting here as there was not much turn and ends by saying that they are happy to start their campaign with a win.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Natalie Sciver-Brunt won the toss and opted to bowl first under an overcast sky but this decision didn't prove to be a positive one as the pair of Danni Wyatt and Smriti Mandhana started strongly. Mandhana kept on finding the fence and brought up a classy 50. They did lose a couple of wickets in succession but Maia Bouchier and Chloe Tryon played stellar cameos to take them to a big total of 157 runs. For Trent Rockets Women, Bryony Smith picked up a couple of wickets and Kirstie Gordon was highly economical but they bowled a few too many extras early on and ended up chasing a big score. In reply, Trent Rockets Women simply didn't have a good Powerplay and found themselves having to go hard in the middle overs, eventually ending up on the losing side.
Trent Rockets Women have only themselves to blame as a sluggish start cost them dearly. Bryony Smith got out without facing a ball and the hard-hitting Lizelle Lee couldn't do much either. There was a partnership brewing between Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur but the latter got out looking to up the ante, leaving the skipper with a lot to do. They kept on losing wickets and even though Natalie Sciver-Brunt picked off Maitlan Brown for a few boundaries, she too fell and the tail then just had too much to do.
Southern Brave with a strong showing in the field to back up their brilliant batting performance and they have clinched the opening game of the competition without much fuss. Brave were able to pick up a wicket off the very first ball of the innings as some confusion between the openers of Trent Rockets Women gave them an opening. This was then backed up by some really good bowling by young Mary Taylor who picked up three wickets in total. The spinners bowled tight spells and even though they conceded boundaries here and there, they were able to get wickets regularly and in the end, it was a comfortable victory.
