Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. So, it is mainly a repeat of the previous edition as Sri Lanka Legends will take on India Legends in the finals of the Road Safety T20 World Series 2022. It will be Sachin Tendulkar vs Sanath Jayasuriya. The match will be at same venue in Raipur on 1st October, 2022. The first ball will be at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). Our build-up though begins much earlier. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Nuwan Kulasekara wins the Man of the Match award for his exceptional spell of 4-0-26-2. He starts by saying it was a really good match. Adds he is used to bowl pressure overs and that helped him a lot. Informs Dilshan always like to be a champion and he gives them a lot of pressure but in a positive sense with his hunger to win. Mentions every wicket against India is crucial and he will try to give his all on the field for his country.
Tillakaratne Dilshan, the victorious skipper says that it was a good game and both the teams played well. Further says that their bowling was good with the dew in play and mentions they also batted well in middle phase. Says that the ball was wet and it was hard to keep up with that. Further says there are young players in the squad which is really good. Also they have less than 24 hours so will try and give their best. Adds that Sanath Jayasuriya is a man that can bowl at any point and his experience helps them a lot.
Brian Lara, the skipper of West Indies Legends is in for a chat. He says that looking back at things they could've saved 20-25 runs in the field. But credits the Sri Lankan players to get going under pressure. Mentions it did not work at the end of the day but it was a great match. Adds it has been an awesome trip and spening time with some players from across the world.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Sanath Jayasuriya is in for a quick chat. He says that they were nervous because of the total. Adds that the players have bowled well and its all that matters. Further says that his role is to bowl and try and pick wickets. Further says that they would love to win the finals this time and it will be a good game.
Earlier in the innings, Sri Lanka Legends were scoring at a really good rate thanks to their brisk start by the openers. Although, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At one stage even 160 looked difficult, but their tail-enders hit a couple of ball and got them over 170. West Indies Legends could've been more miserly in the field. They leaked aplenty only in singles and doubles, when they could've ended things quite early.
Sri Lanka Legends gave it their all in the field. It was a complete bowling performance. Initially it looked like West Indies Legends were running away with the game but Sanath Jayasuriya came into the attack and went BANG, BANG! He got rid of Dwayne Smith and Kirk Edwards in consecutive deliveries to shift the momentum. Later, the bowlers did really well to find timely wickets. They looked in trouble a bit when Narsingh Deonarine and Danza Hyatt stitched a crucial stand which could've well turned into a match-winning stand if not for the death bowling of Sri Lanka Legends. Their death bowling has come through again. Sanath Jayasuriya and Nuwan Kulasekara both ended with a brace.
West Indies Legends were in it to win it for most part of the match. They were off to a brilliant start, thanks to the cameo of Brian Lara. He pleased us with a couple of exceptional shots but chopped on back onto his own stumps. Dwayne Smith later took his time to get settled but hit a few meaty blows once he got his eye-in. But once he fell, West Indies Legends got deariled a bit. Narsingh Deonarine went about his business quietly and racked up 63 runs. Although, he fell in the death overs which put them on the back foot. In the end, their tail-enders could not face the pace attack of Sri Lanka.
WOW! A game full of ebbs and flows! An incredible exhibition of death bowling by Sri Lanka Legends. The experienced seamers worked them magic under pressure and have taken their side over the line here. So, Sri Lanka Legends have made it to the finals of the Road Safety T20 World Series for the second time on the trot. West Indies Legends gave a run for their but their long tail came back to haunt them.
