Shane Watson the skipper of Australia Legends says that the wicket held up really nicely and they batted really well. Credits Bryce McGain for bowling really well and putting the lid on in the middle overs. Adds it is a privilege to be out there and be a part of some fun battles. Time for the presentation...
West Indies Legends put up a competitive total on the board courtesy of a fifty from Dwayne Smith and a good inning from the captain Kirk Edwards who fell four runs short of his half-century. They would have liked 10-15 more runs after the start they had but credit goes to Dirk Nannes who bowled outstandingly well in the death overs. Bryce McGain was the pick of the bowlers for Australia Legends as he picked up 3 crucial wickets for just 23 runs in his 4 overs. At the halfway stage it looked like they had an uphill task but their openers made a mockery of it.
Australia Legends began their innings with gusto as they went after the West Indies Legends bowlers right away. Everything went the Aussies' way as they put on 68 runs for no loss at the end of the Powerplay. With the threat of rain forever present, the Australia Legends openers continued their carnage and were well in front of the required rate. Their captain Shane Watson got to his half-century and brought up the 100-run partnership with Alex Doolan before the halfway stage. The latter got to his half-century soon after but was dismissed by Dave Mohammed as he looked to continue his assault. Shane Watson scored 88 runs in just 50 deliveries including 9 maximums before being dismissed by Dwayne Smith but by then had ensured that Australia Legends would trot home to a comfortable win.
Shane Watson has lost none of his hitting ability and Australia Legends have found this run chase way too easy as they win by 8 wickets and 29 balls to spare! The Aussies will be looking to take this momentum into the business end of this tournament. This has been disappointing by West Indies Legends who lacked any sort of control in this game and have suffered their first loss in this tournament. Australia Legends are suddenly in the mix for the playoff spots with this dominating win. The Windies will need to put this disappointment behind them and come back strong in the next game.
