... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier in the game, the Birmingham Phoenix scored 137/7 in their quota of 100 balls. The Southern Brave bowled well after winning the toss and manage to break through early with Tilly Coleman taking two key wickets, reducing Phoenix to 29/2. Amy Jones was the top scorer for Phoenix with 51 runs off 36 balls, aided by a late cameo from Arlott, who scored 22 off 12 balls. Despite the efforts of Jones and Arlott, Southern Brave continued to take wickets regularly, keeping the score manageable. Tilly Coleman was the standout bowler, finishing with 2 wickets.
Birmingham Phoenix Women were good with the ball. Perry and Charis Pavely each took three wickets, supported by contributions from Katie Levick, Emily Arlott, and Hannah Baker, ensuring a comprehensive bowling performance to defend their total successfully. Amy Jones was brilliant as well behind the sticks, as she took six catches!
Chasing a target of 138, Southern Brave's opening pair, Smriti Mandhana and Danielle Wyatt, faced an early setback when Ellyse Perry took three quick wickets, leaving them at 21/3 in the fourth over. Wyatt and Freya Kemp then worked together to stabilize the innings, developing a strong partnership. However, Kemp was dismissed for 23, followed by Wyatt for 43 in rapid succession, leading to a collapse of the lower order. Once they departed, there was no turning back for them as wickets kept on tumbling for them.
The Birmingham Phoenix Women have secured their second consecutive victory with this win, by defeating Southern Brave Women by 16 runs, and continuing their strong momentum. The defending champions, Southern Brave, remain winless in the Women's Hundred 2024!
