Right then, that's all from this game where Chattogram Challengers came out on top and climbed to the second spot in the standings. The action in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League continues on Wednesday, the 7th of February with another doubleheader. It will be Comilla Victorians taking on Khulna Tigers in the first game of the day and it will begin at 1 pm IST (7.30 am GMT). That game will be followed by Durdanto Dhaka locking horns with Sylhet Strikers and it will begin at 6 pm IST (12.30 pm GMT), but our build-up will begin much sooner. See you then. Cheers!
The captain of Chattogram Challengers, Shuvagata Hom says that it was a good bowling effort. Mentions that the bowlers did not take pressure which helped. Credits Tom Bruce and Josh Brown for the way they batted. Says that qualifying for the playoffs is the first target and they are taking one game at a time.
Shohidul Islam is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar bowling performance. He starts by thanking the almighty and says that it feels good to win and contribute to the team. States that they had a low target to defend and they had to bowl well. Feels that the wicket assisted the bowlers and the absence of dew also helped.
The skipper of Fortune Barishal, Tamim Iqbal says that they did not start well with the bat. Feels that it was a difficult wicket to bat on in both innings. Adds that the odd ball kept low. States that they should have applied themselves and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Feels that it was a good effort to restrict Chattogram Challengers to 140. Ends by saying that they needed to keep wickets in hand, something which they could not do in this game.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, after being inserted into bat, it was a struggle for Tanzid Hasan who was the first to perish for the Chattogram Challengers. Josh Brown took the attack to the opposition and looked set for a big score until he was dismissed. After his departure, no other batter was able to put the opposition bowlers under pressure in the way that Brown did. Despite the fall of wickets at the other end, Tom Bruce hung in there and batted till the end for his side. Thanks to his unbeaten fifty, the Challengers were able to get to 145. It was a collective effort from the bowlers of Fortune Barishall but it was Taijul Islam was the most economical of the lot with figures of 1 for 21 from his four overs.
On the other hand, Fortune Barishal will be disappointed to end up on the losing side. The bowlers had set it up for them by restricting the Chattogram Challengers to a manageable total but they just could never get going in the run chase. In their pursuit of 146 runs, it was a shaky start for the Fortune Barishal as they lost three wickets in the Powerplay. Ahmed Shehzad had a scratchy stay at the crease while Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan fell for a duck. The experienced duo of Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim then got together to take their side out of choppy waters. While Tamim looked to have found his groove, it was a real struggle for Fortune Barishal's keeper batter. The southpaw fell a run of his fifty, leaving the rest of the batters with all to do. Shoaib Malik could not do much and it was the same story with Mahmudullah. Mohammad Saifuddin hit a few lusty blows but it was all in a lost cause.
Chattogram Challengers return to winning ways with a masterful bowling effort! A mighty fine performance from the bowlers of Chattogram and Shuvagata Hom will be very pleased with his boys. The Challengers secure their fifth win of the season and snap Fortune Barishal's two-game winning streak. With not a big total to defend, they were in search of early wickets with the ball. They did not allow the opposition openers to get off to a flier and were rewarded with wickets. Al-Amin Hossain struck twice in an over before Bilal Khan got into the act. Shohidul Islam, Shykat Ali and Mohammad Nihaduzzaman combined well in the middle phase to tighten the screws even more and made life more difficult for Fortune Barishal. Given the task of bowling the penultimate over, Shohidul answered the skipper's call and closed out the game with twin blows.

OUT! Abbas Afridi marks his attendance and returns for a first-ball duck. Another slower one from Shohidul Islam. He delivers it full and outside off, Abbas tries to do a Shahid Afridi on his first ball and wields his willow at it. He only manages to slice it to deep backward point and Josh Brown makes no mistake.
Abbas Afridi comes out now for the Fortune Barishal.
