Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants by 7 runs
Right then, that is all from this astonishing game and the dynamics at the top of the table just shift a bit yet again as Gujarat join Lucknow and a couple of other teams on 8 points. The second game of Super Saturday, between Mumbai and Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium is now underway and you can simply switch tabs and catch our coverage. Cheers!
Mohit Sharma (3-0-17-2) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fine display of death bowling. Says that there is nothing special and it is all about being consistent. Praises his team and talks about the preparations they have put in. Tells that he has focused on his practice and kept things simple. Shares that they always believed in themselves and credits Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra for showing their faith. Also adds that he tried to outsmart the batters in the last over and it paid off.
Earlier in the game, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first on a wicket that looked difficult for batting and once the game started we got to see that indeed, it wasn't easy to score runs. Wriddhiman Saha though got away a few boundaries inside the Powerplay but there wasn't much from the other batters. Hardik Pandya came in at number 3 and stayed on the crease, watching on as his fellow batters failed to up the ante. In the death over, Pandya did manage to hit a few lusty blows to take Gujarat over 130 runs. As for Lucknow, Krunal Pandya and Naveen-ul-Haq bowled well at the start and whenever they came on as well with the others supporting them nicely. The only exception was Ravi Bishnoi who was hit for a lot of runs. Coming to the chase, Lucknow were on top of proceedings right from ball one till about the 17th over but then there was a huge downfall that cost them dearly.
Lucknow will be scratching their head and thinking how did they go on to lose this game, it was in the bag halfway through the 20 overs. Skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers started off briskly with a 55-run stand before the latter fell. This though was backed up with another 50-plus stand between Rahul and Krunal Pandya and it was all smooth sailing for them. However, they lost a couple of quick wickets and Rahul simply couldn't get the boundaries away under pressure. From needing less than run-a-ball to needing 12 off the final over, they lost the plot completely in the final over. First Rahul got out and then they lost 3 more wickets in as many deliveries to go on and lose a game that should have never gone to the final over itself.
Gujarat were dead and buried and with the opposition needing 30 runs off 34 balls and 9 wickets in hand, they stood no chance but Noor Ahmad dismissed Krunal Pandya on the next ball and all of a sudden, the dynamic changed. It was still pretty comfortable for Lucknow but Noor Ahmad struck again in his final over and gave his side a chance. The last three overs were decisive as Mohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami brought all their years of combined experience to suffocate the batters. With 12 needed off the last over, Sharma picked up a couple of quick wickets that were followed by two quick run-outs and before you know it, Gujarat won the game by 7 runs.
The stuff with which dreams are made and Mohit Sharma has done it here for Gujarat! Can you believe it? Lucknow, from cruising to an easy win with balls to spare, have thrown it away and Gujarat have snatched the win right off their hands. There are incredible scenes inside the stadium and Gujarat have pulled off a heist.

OUT! RUN OUT! A team Hat-Trick for Gujarat. Lucknow lose another wicket now. It is a full-length ball, on off. Deepak Hooda crunches it back to the bowler. Mohit Sharma only manages to get a hand on it but kills a lot of pace off it. Hooda calls for two runs but the throw from Vijay Shankar is accurate enough to find Ayush Badoni short of the crease at the non-striker's end.
Is that a run-out? Ayush Badoni has started walking here! The third umpire is called in and the replays confirm that the throw from long off by Vijay Shankar is a brilliant one and Badoni is well short of his crease at the bowler's end. OUT!
Deepak Hooda comes in to face the hat-trick delivery!

OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! KL Rahul departs on 68. Lucknow were cruising along nicely at one stage, but if they lose this game now, they have only themselves to blame. A short ball, on middle. KL Rahul thinks about riding the bounce and pulls it to deep backward square leg. He only manages to hit it down the throat of Jayant Yadav who makes no mistake.

It is full and on off. KL Rahul thumps it down the ground, Mohit Sharma ducks under it, instead of putting his hand in between. It easily could've been a dot ball but Lucknow get two runs off it.
Is that a run-out? Ayush Badoni did put in the dive at the bowler's end but this might be close. The replays confirm that the throw from down the ground was a good one and Mohit Sharma whipped off the bails quickly as well but the dive did save Badoni. Not Out!
