It went down to the wire but the experienced heads of Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp led from the front with the ball for South Africa. Ismail was exceptional at the start and towards the end. Ayabonga Khaka and Kapp supported her brilliantly by picking important wickets. Klaas broke the important stand between Sohail and Dar. They weren’t at their brutal best but delivered when mattered.
There were many a times in the game where Pakistan were on top but that has been the case for them in this tournament so far, they have failed to win at the important stages. The openers got them off to a steady start before they lost two quickly. Then there was a decent stand between Omaima Sohail and Nahida Khan which steadied the ship. Then the partnership between Sohail and Dar took them on top but wickets in heaps put them onto the back foot. Dar though continued and she held the key. It came down to 11 from 7 balls when she was run out. 10 was needed in the last over which the lower order failed to score.
What a game of cricket this was! Heartbreak for Pakistan in the end but credit for the way they fought and should be happy with how they batted after two poor outings. While, South Africa Women make it two wins on the trot.
