Right then, that is it from this exciting game where Southern Brave Women gets another win while Birmingham Phoenix Women still remains winless this season. However, the action now moves to the Men's Hundred where the same two teams battle it out against each other with a lot at stake. You can just switch tabs to enjoy all the build-up of that game. Cheers!
Danni Wyatt is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She says that they wanted to hang in there and look to bat deep. Credits Anya Shrubsole to keep her nerve to defend it. Adds that she is happy with the opening partnership. Shares that 120-130 was a good score on this slowish wicket. Mentions that the atmosphere was amazing and the crowd works like a 12th man for them. Says that she hopes to get the crowd back for their final home game against the Oval Invincibles Women. Informs that the fielding has been the key and credits Maia Bouchier for her amazing work through the season in the field. Closes by saying that she is happy to go top of the table.
Earlier in the game, after electing to bat first, Southern Brave Women posted a good total on the board with fine contributions from Smriti Mandhana, Danni Wyatt, and Maia Bouchier. Emily Arlott was the best bowler for Birmingham Phoenix Women with a couple of wickets while Erin Burns and Katie Levick chipped in with one each. They gave a good account of themselves while chasing this total and came close again, but just fell short by 3 runs in the end.
Southern Brave Women, on the other hand, will be happy with their bowling and fielding efforts. Lauren Bell started things off for them by getting rid of Sophie Devine in the first over to set the tone for them. However, they allowed a couple of partnerships in the middle which put them on the back foot for a bit, but Maia Bouchier produced an excellent run out to dismiss Amy Jones which inspired them and there was no looking back for them. Georgia Adams picked up a couple of wickets as well along with Bell while Kalea Moore got one too. Anya Shrubsole, the skipper took responsibility of the last over to defend 11 runs, and she did that in style and picked up two wickets as well to go top of the table for now.
Birmingham Phoenix Women got off to the worst possible start losing Sophie Devine in the very first over, but Sterre Kalis and Eve Jones did the repair job for them with a 40-run stand. However, both of them departed soon after for 20 and 21 runs respectively. The platform was set for the big guns to get in and go hard and Amy Jones and Erin Burns did exactly that and added 43 crucial runs together and were looking in control, but that run-out of Jones changed the game again and things went downhill for them as they suffered a bit of a collapse towards the end and once again failed to cross that line.
What a performance from Southern Brave Women! They were in a bit of trouble in the middle of this run chase, but their bowlers and fielders stepped up at the right moment to take this win. They have defeated Birmingham Phoenix Women by 3 runs and now they are just one point away from qualification into the next round. Birmingham Phoenix Women put up a better show than their previous games but once again it was not enough to earn them their first win of the season.
